Pefferside Park Pond Restoration

There are plans to restore the pond in Dingwall’s Pefferside Park in 2025.

These draft plans aim to increase the pond’s community and environmental value.

The funding is available to make this happen.

Please read the information below to find out more, & how to share your views.
  • The Pefferside Park pond is currently of low amenity and biodiversity value, largely due to its concrete edge and substrate.
  • There is a need to make the pond once again of value to the community, now and in the future.
  • The restoration of the pond into a wildlife pond presents a unique opportunity to provide a community greenspace rich in wildlife, that requires little ongoing maintenance.

  • Design features include the removal of most the concrete edge combined with reprofiling to create shallow, vegetated edges around the pond’s circumference.
  • Shallow edges are great for wildlife but also have the added benefit of enhanced access for activities such as pond dipping.

  • The pond could also be an educational resource for locals and visitors on climate, natural flood management and biodiversity, which further supports community and economy.
  • Dingwall’s 800th birthday in 2026 presents a fantastic opportunity to integrate the town’s Viking heritage through sculptures/structures within the wider biodiversity project, building on the local desire for greater amenity and identity.

  • The restoration work will be funded through the Scottish Government’s Nature Restoration Fund and managed by Dingwall based Lockett Agri-Environmental.
  • The final agreed design will be constructed in late summer 2025.
It’s important to know what people think about these plans for the town’s main park.
  • There is questionnaire which will allow you to share your views.
  • Come along to the community consultation event. This will be on Monday 3rd February from 4 – 8pm at Dingwall Community Centre, all welcome.
  • You may meet someone from Lockett Agri-Environmental, or DCDC in the park over the next few weeks, asking for your thoughts.

Look forward to hearing from you.
